Nashville Threesome: “Running Out of Excuses” (Six Sentence Sunday #2)

Another hot country singer - Brad PaisleyWelcome to another week of Six Sentence Sunday. Here’s another taste of  Nashville Threesome. It’s a novel about Ashley Ford and Rob Porter, co-singers in the country band “Sweet Talk” and Ty Monroe, a man from Ashley’s past who becomes very involved in their lives…

Enjoy!

**************************************************************************

Ashley sat up, pulling away from Rob and rubbing the knot forming between her eyes. Rob’s brow furrowed with concern and she attempted a smile. It must have come out like a grimace because his expression darkened.

Please don’t ask what’s wrong. I’m running out of excuses. She sure as hell couldn’t tell him what was really stressing her – that in addition to her downward spiraling career her secret attraction to her co-singer was turning into a full-blown obsession.

**************************************************************************

(FYI – Brad Paisley, above, has nothing to do with this story except that he’s cute and a little bit dorky, which is how I like my men. Oh, and he sings country music ;-) )

Nashville Threesome is so close to done, I can taste it!

My debut novella, Revving Her Up  will be published with Samhain on January 15, 2013. Stay tuned!

Nashville Threesome: Six Sentence Sunday #1

Keith Urban with guitarWelcome to another week of Six Sentence Sunday. I’m jumping in with a piece from my latest WIP, Nashville Threesome. It’s a novel about Ashley Ford and Rob Porter, co-singers in the country band “Sweet Talk” and a man from Ashley’s past who becomes very involved in their lives…

Enjoy!

**************************************************************************

The back-up players put down their instruments, stretched and started to scatter. They only had use of the club for a few hours and they needed the practice so the break would be short.

Ashley stayed seated, not meeting anyone’s eyes. In spite of Rob’s optimistic assessment session had sucked. Everyone knew it and knew who was to blame. She stared at the guitar in her hands, running her fingers down the long neck and strumming a few chords. The instrument still worked fine – she was the one who was out of tune.

**************************************************************************

Nashville Threesome is about 75% done so you can expect to hear more very soon.

Revving Her Up my debut novella will be published with Samhain on January 15, 2013. Stay tuned!

His voice dropped fanning the embers of desire that danced beneath her skin. “It takes a firm hand to keep a real beauty under control while pushing her as hard and fast as she can go. It’s a rush like no other.”

“You’ll be ready to go in no time.”

Ready to go? As in car fixed and out of here?

Sarah watched the play of muscles across Cole’s back as he grabbed the wrench with both hands and pulled. His biceps strained with the effort and her breath caught in her throat. Her fingers twitched, eager to feel the strength in those limbs. To touch those rock-hard planes. To discover if he really was the cure she’d been looking for…

Standing behind her with one hand on her shoulder, he pointed to the left side of the axle. “There. See that narrow metal rod just inside the wheel?”

He paused waiting for an answer but Sarah’s mind had gone blank the moment he touched her. His hand on her shoulder was like a brand sending a heated awareness across her chest and down her torso. Her nipples pebbled. Several inches stood between them but she could feel his body behind her as surely as if they had embraced. It took all of her willpower not to lean back and close the gap.

Who was she trying to kid? What she really wanted to see was his bedroom. What kind of bed did he sleep in – an old fashioned four-poster? A modern platform?

One thing she was sure of: given the man’s size and the space he took up with his presence alone, it was definitely a king. Plenty of room for two.

Cole adjusted the front of his jeans and Sarah couldn’t help but smile. At least she wasn’t the only one affected by their near-kiss. “This shouldn’t take long,” he said, waving an arm towards the living room as headed down the hall. “Make yourself at home.”

She watched his rearview until he disappeared through a door at the end of the hall then finished her wine in a single gulp.

What the hell had just happened?

Sarah preceded Cole down the brick path that led to the front door. Was he watching her? She put an extra wiggle in her walk and thought she heard a sharp intake of breath.

He wanted her. She wanted him. No need to make it more complicated than that.

She was looking at the gear shift.

Cole loosened his grip, allowing his fingers to lightly caress the leather. Sarah’s nostrils flared and the tip of her tongue darted out to wet her lips.

Was he imagining her hand on his shaft? Her fingers caressing his skin?

He certainly was.

Hot mechanicThe man shifted and his worn plaid shirt rode up revealing abs that were flat and taut. A six-pack in place of the beer bellies she’d seen so far.

Dark hair gathered into a narrow line that parted around his navel and disappeared beneath the waistband of his jeans. A brass buckle decorated with crossed racing flags cinched his leather belt.

The thought of crossing that finish line made Sarah’s pulse race.

Drivers, start your engines.

I’m currently revising Revving Her Up and expect it to be published sometime this fall.  Stay tuned for more details!
