Some writers like to work to music. They pick songs that inspire them, turning the volume way up to drown out the chatter of their internal editor (or their kids). I need complete silence to create. When there’s something playing in the background I find myself listening to the lyrics. Even instrumental pieces distract me.
But that doesn’t mean that I don’t have playlists for my stories. Music is what inspires me. And there is no genre of music that inspires me more than country. So, I put together playlists, songs I listen to before I write, during breaks or whenever I want to get in touch with my muse. (She likes country too :-).
Here are playlists I put together for some of my writing projects. One was for Revving Her Up, which will come out in January 2012. (Read an excerpt here). The second playlist was for a still untitled work-in-progress about a succubus in New York City.
Any suggestions for songs to add to either list? What kind of music inspires you? Let me know in the comments below!
